Thought Leader

As Carly Simon’s song so profoundly says; ‘Nobody does it Better!’

That is exactly the point of Value Quotient as it relates to indispensability. You are a master of a particular niche, with a sagacious ability to know how to make your contribution enduring. It takes tenacity, focus, discernment and a keen sense. This is what I call your value quotient. Your worth or the value of your expertise and its results. The formula looks simple but like a Rubick’s Cube very few can effectively implement it with lasting results.

Having witnessed the measurable, quantifiable and sustainable results from a master at work, it is evident that the value quotient is an effective tool for any company to use for human capital. Wisdom and business intelligence dictates seeking and retaining the expertise of a master who possesses the arcane formula for success. Measurable, quantifiable and sustainable results can add up to longevity and retention.

Yes, you can be indispensable if there is that ‘secret ingredient’, that ‘certain something’ that you have and no one in your area of expertise does. It is your signature, your mark, which is exclusive to you and no one else. It is a thought leader, a futurist, an uncommon person who senses, understands, knows and links the missing pieces together to make the whole. I will take it a step further and say it is the one who is a master, exceptional at his/her craft, has the longevity, sustainability, and with results that sets them apart from the others. Once you figure that part out, you have the ‘golden ticket’ that can make you indispensable.

Sharing what you know is not the same as knowing what you know – in creativity, you got to have “it”. “It” being the confidence of knowing that you know. Yes, you can teach others what you know, and train them. However, if their heart, their passion, their mindset do not all meet at the intersection to connect – it is a futile effort.

Engaging those who thrive and love what they do, and want to learn, are the ones who will succeed, be of high value, retained and most likely indispensable. These individuals are almost a breed of their own, intense and passionate, they are thought leaders, change agents, trailblazers….and highly sought after.

With the ever-changing landscape of globally connected businesses and consumers, adaptability is of paramount importance to be able to meet the wants/needs of the target audience. Once again, the master, the futurist and thought leader has already anticipated and is implementing changes to be the trailblazer, front-runner, the first to carve out a niche, and stake claim to that territory. The high Value Quotient is essential to finding and maintaining the edge over the competition. As a business owner and advocate to this process, I have experienced the birthing, training and releasing of highly capable professionals resulting from this inherent value in a master whose sharply tuned skills is one of the fundamental elements to successful and sustainable results and indispensability.

Those who choose to focus only on what benefits them, will find disappointment, and rarely make a distinguishable mark in their environments. Their focus is on looking for the fastest and easiest way to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Instead of satisfaction in giving their best, their best is focused on themselves and how they can get the most instead of giving their best and can find themselves always searching for the elusive perfect job without factoring in the value quotient. This type of person is out of focus, maintaining a strict cookie-cutter style template, with a refusal to share or expand their knowledge perhaps out of fear for their job or being replaced.

Continual learning; drilling down, mining, trailblazing and a voracious appetite for excellence – these are some of the internal triggers that must be set into motion to achieve a higher ratio of indispensability. Competition is fierce in most fields of expertise in business. The plethora of consultants, both in technology and marketing add witness to the already booming and rapid pace of expert offerings to the global business world. So then, how do you make yourself indispensable or at least considered of high value to be retained? What is your value quotient? Have you thought of reasons why you are indispensable? Why should someone choose to retain you over someone else in the same line of work, similar job description, similar talents? Do you know how to answer that or have you even thought of it as an important part of your work?

It is not the big salary – it is the big vision, passion, active and progressive thinking, the futurist who is able to implement ideas that bring sustainable results and indispensability.

To be able to say; ” I breathe this day in and day out, it oozes from my pores like a delicious perfume, its the passion and love for what I day each day, that gets me excited about the work I do.”

Money comes, money goes – but what you know, no one can take from you. That is the greatest wealth we must value, cherish and seek after to be indispensable.
